Week 5 (July 5-July 9)

  • Parallel sides in quadrilaterals

  • Calculate the perimeter and area of your bedroom in feet (If you don't have a ruler or measuring tape, how many of your own feet does it take to get from one side to the other?)

  • Find words using context

  • Watch your favorite cartoon. Who is the main character? Draw a picture of them and write 3 words that describe them. Share with a family member and explain why you chose the 3 words you did.

  • Collect rocks and paint them. Turn them into pet rocks, garden ornaments, or gifts for family members.

  • Grow fresh herbs in containers. Use old coffee cans, milk jugs, mason jars, plastic cups, or anything else you have around the house. Keep your herb garden on a patio or windowsill.

Week 8 (July 26-July 30)

  • Plan a family activity day. Decide how much money to spend and research events and activities in your area and choose an affordable activity the whole family can enjoy. Allow enough time for the activity, and remember to include food in the day's plan. (This online Kids Party Checklist will help.) Don't forget to bring a camera and take lots of pictures. Create a family scrapbook of your special day.

    1. Describe the event or activity your family will attend.

    2. Will everyone in the family enjoy this activity? Why do you think so?

    3. What do you need to arrange ahead of time? Will you need to purchase tickets? Pack a lunch? Make reservations?

    4. What supplies or materials will you need?

    5. What costs will be involved?
