  • Grow fresh herbs in containers. Use old coffee cans, milk jugs, mason jars, plastic cups, or anything else you have around the house. Keep your herb garden on a patio or windowsill.

  • Plan a family activity day. Decide how much money to spend and research events and activities in your area and choose an affordable activity the whole family can enjoy. Allow enough time for the activity, and remember to include food in the day's plan. (This online Kids Party Checklist will help.) Don't forget to bring a camera and take lots of pictures. Create a family scrapbook of your special day.

    1. Describe the event or activity your family will attend.

    2. Will everyone in the family enjoy this activity? Why do you think so?

    3. What do you need to arrange ahead of time? Will you need to purchase tickets? Pack a lunch? Make reservations?

    4. What supplies or materials will you need?

    5. What costs will be involved?

  • Interview an older relative. Write out your family history.

  • Match the quotations with their themes

  • Communicating by snail mail. Composing letters is a lost art. But writing letters by hand helps you better focus your thoughts. You can’t cut and paste at will, and so you have to get it right the first time. To whom can you write? Rihanna, New Direction, The CEO of Forever 21 retail stores, the manager of the local McDonald’s. Use Google to find addresses.

Just for Fun!

  • Cool down by making Ice Cream in a Bag. The simple technique produces delicious ice cream in about 5 minutes.

Week 11 (August 16-August 20)
